One example of a time when I used digital portfolios or documentation to showcase student learning in physical education was during a unit on basketball skills. At the beginning of the unit, each student had access to their own digital portfolio which they could update throughout the course of the unit.
To start, I provided a list of specific skills and techniques that the students needed to demonstrate proficiency in, such as dribbling, shooting, and passing. Using their digital portfolios, the students were able to document their progress as they practiced and improved these skills. They could upload videos of themselves performing the skills, photos of themselves practicing, or even written reflections on their development.
Throughout the unit, I would review the students’ digital portfolios and provide feedback on their progress. This allowed me to track each student’s growth and identify areas where they may need additional support. It also provided an opportunity for students to reflect on their own learning and set goals for improvement.
At the end of the unit, the students were tasked with creating a final showcase in their digital portfolios. They had to compile evidence of their learning, such as videos of them performing various basketball skills, their reflections on their progress, and any other relevant documentation.
