Sample interview questions: Share an example of a time when you developed and implemented a project-based assessment for your students.
Sample answer:
- Context and Rationale:
I taught a high school English literature course, and I wanted to create a project-based assessment that would engage students and allow them to demonstrate their understanding of the concepts and skills covered in the curriculum. I also wanted to encourage creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking.
- Project Overview:
I designed a project called “Creating a Literary Zine.” Students were tasked with creating a digital or physical zine that explored a specific literary theme or genre. They had to select appropriate literary texts, write original content (poetry, short stories, essays, etc.), and design the layout and visuals of their zine.
- Project Implementation:
a. Pre-Project Preparation: I began by introducing the concept of zines and their history. I also provided students with resources and examples to help them understand the different elements and styles of zines.
b. Collaborative Project Groups: I divided the class into small groups of 3-4 students. Each group was assigned a specific literary theme or genre to explore in their zine.
c. Content Development: Students worked together to select appropriate literary texts, conduct research, and write original content related to their assigned theme or genre. They had to demonstrate their understanding of the literary concepts and skills we had covered in class.
d. Design and Layout: Students were encouraged to be creative and innovative in the design and layout of their zines. They used software, online tools, or even physical materials to create visually appealing and engaging zines.
e. Peer Feedback: Throughout the project, students received feedback from their peers and me. They had to provide constructive criticism and suggestions to help each other improve their work.
- Assessment and Evaluation:
I used a holistic approach to assess students’ work. I evaluated their zines based on the following criteria:
a. Content: I assessed the relevance, depth, and originality of the literary content in the zine.
b. Creativity and Design: I evaluated the visual appeal, layout, and overall design of the zine.
c. Collaboration: I observed and assessed the level of collaboration and teamwork exhib… Read full answer
