The conflict arose over a disagreement about the curriculum for a new course that one of the faculty members was developing. The other faculty member, who had been teaching a similar course for many years, felt that the new course would overlap with their own and potentially harm their enrollment.
I began by meeting with both faculty members individually to hear their perspectives and concerns. I also reviewed the course proposals and syllabi for both courses.
